Hear from our former Chevening scholars

"Chevening has had a profound and lasting impact on my journey. It gave me the opportunity to study at Royal Holloway, strengthen my analytical and research skills and grow in confidence.

"It also opened doors – from funding my PhD to publishing my work and building my academic profile. The insights I gained into election analysis continue to shape my research today. Just as importantly, it connected me to a vibrant international network of scholars and future leaders.

"Above all, it reinforced my commitment to combining academic rigour with empathy and strengthened my platform as a leader. I hope to continue using that platform to contribute to global conversations on democracy and elections, particularly in the African context."

"When I discovered Chevening I immediately recognised it as the opportunity I had been waiting for - not only to study in the UK, access to a level of education and international exposure I could not have afforded. I applied twice before being selected, and that moment changed my life.

"Chevening allowed me to be the first person in my family to leave the country and pursue a masters degree abroad. For me, it represents social mobility, personal achievement, and the possibility of transforming my future.

"Chevening gave me the tools, network, and confidence to pursue a career focused on people, inclusion, and long-term impact. It’s been a life-changing experience that has fundamentally expanded what I believe is possible."

"My time as a Chevening Scholar has been truly transformative. It has encouraged me to dream bigger and provided a clear pathway to achieving my ambitions.

"One of its most valuable aspects is the global network, connecting me with inspiring professionals and future leaders from across the world. Through events and engagement opportunities organised by the Chevening Secretariat, I have gained new perspectives and strengthened my confidence as a future leader.

"Being part of the prestigious Chevening community is incredibly meaningful. With over 60,000 alumni worldwide, it offers a powerful global network for collaboration and idea-sharing.

"For me, it provides the opportunity to connect with high-calibre future leaders, share perspectives, and build relationships around common interests and ambitions."
