Royal Holloway’s research improves lives, driven by innovative partnerships. Our academics collaborate with businesses and industries, with health, cultural and heritage sectors, and with government bodies, charities, and NGOs. Our research is strengthened by our links with business and LEPs across the region, and by our research partnerships with national and international partners.
Our Research Centres and Institutes nurture partnership-led research and define areas of excellence. Partnerships with other universities and external agencies provide an environment for academics and their collaborators to work together and shape new intellectual agendas.
Research Excellence Framework 2021
In the Research Excellence Framework (REF) 2021, it was confirmed that Royal Holloway remains within the top 25 per cent of universities in the UK for research.

Outstanding facilities
Royal Holloway is home to some world-class research facilities located at our Egham campus. These include:
- SuperFab a world-class university cleanroom and home of the UK Centre for Superconducting and Hybrid Quantum Systems (UK-CSQS).
- Omnidrome, Research and Innovation Centre, a hub for world-leading research, innovation, education and knowledge exchange for air, land, and water-based drones, robotics and autonomous vehicles.
