  • Date12 June 2026

Curl Talk is a half-hour, comedy drama pilot created by 3rd Year Producing student, Domiselah Antwi-Brefo. The main character is Imani Gold, a young woman pursuing her dream of opening a hair salon while battling her first-generation mother's expectations for a more secure future.

The pilot was filmed as part of Royal Holloway’s Film, TV & Screen’s Summer Term programme.

It grew out of the MA3006 Producing Film and Television module, where students develop and pitch series ideas to industry. ‘Curl Talk’ was chosen to be produced as a proof of concept.

It was a highly ambitious collaborate effort that involved 65 students from all across the subject area. The cast included students from across all years - each production department headed by 3rd years and alumni, 2nd years forming most of the rest of crew and also including 1st years as production assistants. Generous support came from the Media Arts technical team and other staff members who built the department’s biggest ever studio set. All were led by Curl Talk producer/creator, student Domiselah Antwi-Brefo.

The Curl Talk Pilot will be released on Youtube in August.
