Welcome
English at Royal Holloway is innovative, energetic, creative and friendly, with a commitment to excellence and inclusion across our award-winning teaching, writing and research.
We pride ourselves on our people, our community, environment, and academic prominence. Our scholars have international reputations as expert writers, critical thinkers and influencers in their fields. We have an unprecedented seven Fellows of the Royal Society of Literature on our permanent staff, following in the footsteps of past fellows Coleridge, Tolkien, Yeats, Hardy and Bernard Shaw, and taking their place alongside current fellows Margaret Atwood, Zadie Smith, J.K. Rowling, J.M. Coetzee and Kwame Kwei-Armah.
In addition to our academic staff, we have an extended team of colleagues across the university focused on your wider student experience and also on ensuring your time at Royal Holloway is an investment in your future and career.
Our students are proactive, inspirational and dynamic with involvement in author readings, poetry evenings, alumni networking events, open mic nights, literary festivals, film festivals, and a broad range of sports clubs, plus students societies including the English Literature Society, Shakespeare Society, Orbital Magazine, The Founder newspaper, English PEN, Rhubarb TV, Insanity Radio, Savoy Opera Society, Book Your Brains Out, and the Harry Potter Society.
We hope you will join us for one of our Open Days to find our more about what the English at Royal Holloway can offer you.
