Support Through Court summer placements

Support Through Court summer placements

Support Through Court is once again welcoming students from the Law School to volunteer with the charity between June and September after successfully hosting students in the summer of 2025.

Support Through Court is a national charity providing free practical and emotional help to people who must represent themselves in civil and family court.

Students from Royal Holloway support the charity’s vital work at the Royal Courts of Justice and the Central Family Court in London, assisting people who are navigating the court process without legal representation. Through this summer placement, students gain valuable insight into the justice system and develop key communication skills. They  support clients in person, over the phone, and at court hearings, providing much-needed assistance while building practical experience relevant across legal and public service careers.

Professor Konstantinos Alexandris Polomarkakis, Head of Royal Holloway Law School said: “I am delighted to see the partnership between Royal Holloway Law School and Support Through Court entering its second year through our involvement in the summer placement scheme. This is a great skills-building employability opportunity for our students to gain invaluable work experience and insights about our justice system, while supporting vulnerable people who face difficulties accessing civil and family courts, reflecting our University of Social Purpose ethos."

Emma Taylor, Chief Executive of Support Through Court, added: “We’re thrilled to welcome Royal Holloway students again this summer. With the demand for our services continuing to grow, their support will make a real difference to people going through court alone. At the same time, the experience offers students the chance to develop essential skills and a deeper understanding of the justice system.”

Students who participated in the scheme last summer gained invaluable experience they can use going forward:

“Volunteering has widened my view of the legal world, especially having my first contact hours with clients and how a career in law may feel like”

“The whole experience of helping clients and witnessing their transformation from uncertain to confident in their case has been incredible. The support from my peers and advisors has made a big difference in my experience as well”

Support Through Court relies on more than 1,000 volunteers to help deliver its services across England and Wales. As a charity, it depends on donations and partnerships to continue supporting thousands of clients each year.
