I am a Visiting Lecturer and Language Tutor in Hispanic Studies in the Department of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures. I hold a PhD in Hispanic Studies from RHUL funded by a Santander Scholarship in Hispanic Literature and Visual Culture which focused on intermediality in Federico García Lorca’s late works.
My teaching roles in LLC include Spanish language, literature, and cinema courses; but I am especially proud of my collaboration in the recent creation of our fantastic Translation Studies degree programme. It’s been a pleasure working with the amazing LLC Translation Studies team as well as with our talented first- and second-year students. I currently teach on the first-year courses ‘Spanish Language, Culture, and Translation’, ‘International Film I: Contexts and Practices’, ‘Advanced Spanish Language I’, ‘Ab Initio Spanish Language I’ and ‘Passion and Betrayal on the Spanish Stage’. In second year, my teaching covers the course ‘Advanced Spanish Translation: Skills and Practice’.
My research interests include Hispanic queer and avant-garde poetry, intermediality and word-image relations in Hispanic and World Literature and Visual Culture, and contemporary Hispanic cinema with a focus on queer filmmaking. My current research project focuses on queer millennial filmmakers in the Hispanic world. I am a member of the Centre for Visual Cultures at RHUL, a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and a member of the Association of Hispanists of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. I deliver regular workshops for schools at the BFI on Almodóvar and on Spanish cinema.
My forthcoming monograph Queering Lorca’s Duende (Legenda, 2021) proposes a queer reading of Lorca’s later poetry, theatre, drawings and film script.
