Courtney Bridges

Awarded the J A Paterson Prize for Best 1st year joint student

I am thrilled to have achieved one of the highest first year final averages in a History joint degree and is something that will only spur on my motivation to carry on achieving in my second!

Being part of the department

My first year of History at Royal Holloway, re-inspired my passion for the subject after the summer break and has on multiple occasions reaffirmed my choice to not only study History with Politics and International Relations, but my choice in studying this at Holloway. The history department is amazing, from the help available to students from staff, personal tutors, and peers, to the pride we share in having one of the biggest societies on campus. Being a Course Representative for the department for first year students gave me an even greater appreciation for everything that goes on behind the scenes, while sharing the wider student voice, and I was really grateful to be a part of the Academic Representatives Team. For me, the abundance of course choices are what makes it so unique to other universities, especially in getting to choose an optional module in my first year. I fell in love with the ‘Gods, Men and Power’ module, and was spoilt for choice in making tough decisions between courses for next year and am looking forward to getting started again in Autumn!

A bit about Courtney

I study History, Politics and International Relations, and despite being a Devon girl, from a seaside town, love being at Holloway for its perfect combination of a close-knit campus vibe, with London calling when looking for other things to do and explore. Royal Holloway has presented me with so many opportunities, from The Future Leaders Scholarship, to now winning the J.A Paterson Prize.
