Newsletter - 20th October

  • Date20 October 2023

At the end of another busy and stressful week here is a slimmer than usual end-of-week newsletter.

In this issue:

  • The Classics Society’ trip to Virginia Water Lake
  • Language Revision Social
  • Latin Author Reading Group

The Classics Society invites you to join them on trip to Virginia Water Lake and the Roman Ruins from North Africa

The Classics Society are going on a trip to Virginia Water down the A30 on Wednesday 25th October to visit the Leptis Magna ruins! We will meet at Virginia Water lake at 4pm and committee will present a talk on the ruins and their provenance. If you have questions or concerns about how to get there, please contact us on Instagram (@rhul_classics_society) or on Discord (through the link in our Instagram). Can't wait to see you there!

Here is the link to the website of Windsor Great Park where you will find further details about the antiquities from Leptis Magna and other areas of the park worth visiting! The Park is less than a 30-min walk from College.

Language Revision Social: Another initiative of the Classics Society

The Classics Society are offering a languages revision social on Monday 23rd October at 2pm in Cafe on the Square. Come along to go over material for Greek and Latin language quizzes, plus help from older members of committee if needed.

And finally, the popular Roman Comedy Reading Group is back

Dr Hannah Baldwin and Dr Tim Brady are convening their Roman Comedy reading group on Tuesdays from 5-6 in IN148 (international Building). No languages required, books & drinks provided (including non-alcoholic).

Thank you to everyone who has contributed to the first five issues of the newsletter for this academic year. I look forward to receiving further contributions from students and staff for next week’s issue.

May I remind you all that my Head of Department’s Open Office Hour is Mondays 16:00-17:00. Please feel free to come and talk to me about any issues or problems, but please drop me a line beforehand.

I hope you all have a relaxing weekend!

Best wishes,

Christos
