It allows us to respond quickly to the most urgent needs of students, whether that is financial hardship, access to equipment, or emergency aid, ensuring students can stay on track and succeed. The For What Matters fund enables the University to direct your support to where it will have the greatest impact on our students. The fund provides financial support to students who experience financial difficulty during their university journey and to students who are directly impacted by global crises such as conflict or natural disasters.

Students experiencing financial difficulty
The For What Matters fund contributes to grants for students experiencing financial difficulty. These grants can help to meet a student’s immediate needs, relieving stress and providing some much-needed breathing space to enable the student to seek advice and support to find a way forward.

Students directly impacted by global crises
Grants to students who have been directly impacted by a global crisis such as conflict or natural disaster can be a lifeline, enabling them to continue their studies. In addition to hope for their future, this provides safety and stability at a distressing time. This is an area increasingly in need of our support.
