Are you interested in developing skills for diffusing your research to a wider public via radio broadcasting? This one day workshop introduces skills for presenting your research for podcast or radio broadcast, including an introduction to script writing, interviewing and presentation techniques and basic technical skills for recording and editing.

In this workshop we’ll look at, and practise, different ways of ‘reading like a writer’. We’ll start with efficient reading – information IS important so how to get the most out of a text. Then we’ll look at critical reading – what questions should you ask of a text? Then ‘emotional reading’ – how authors achieve their emotional purpose; and finally ‘gotcha reading’ – how authors keep us reading.

This practical session will help participants explore how their own social positions may impact their research. We will do this by mapping how our race, gender, sexual identities, religion, abilities, neurodiversity, age, political stance, and other identity markers situate our unique sense of knowing. This forms the foundation of the participants’ own positionality statement.
