Techne
Techne Community Event: Trans Day of Visibility 2026
This session is designed for academic and professional services staff, postgraduate researchers, and anyone who plays a role in shaping the experience of trans colleagues and students.
The session will cover:
* The UK landscape in 2026: where trans rights stand, where they've regressed, and what the data actually tell us beneath the headlines.
* Trans lives in higher education: student outcomes, researcher experiences, and the gap between institutional policy and everyday reality.
* The research and data dimension: how the methodological choices we make in our work shape whether trans people are included or erased.
* Practical allyship in an HEI context: from supervision and teaching to committee work, data collection, and institutional accountability
The session, led by Ev Dubinsky, Techne's EDI officer, draws on their direct experience supporting LGBTQ+ young people, some of whom should be sitting in our postgraduate programmes but aren't.
This is a session for people who want to understand not just why trans inclusion matters, but how our institutions are currently falling short, and what we can each do about it.
