Brighton Up Your Congress - We heard your feedback!

This panel is for all attendees as part of Day 1 of the University of Brighton summer Congress. As this is a core activity of the overall event, there is no need to book a space on Inkpath.

Session Details:

Welcome!

From Professor Rusi Jaspal, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Research and Enterprise), University of Brighton.

Session chaired by Dr Tim Wharton, Congress co-organiser, University of Brighton.

We heard your feedback, so this time we are opening this congress differently and bringing everyone together for an energising, welcoming session designed to set the tone for the days ahead in Brighton. This first gathering is an opportunity to meet fellow researchers from across the Techne consortium, kickstart the day in a relaxed and lively environment, and begin building the sense of community we hope underpins this event. Rather than a formal introduction, the session invites participants to engage and collaborate in fun ways that highlight our curiosity, creativity, and connection.

Across a series of short, interactive activities, you’ll have the chance to discover unexpected overlaps in your research interests, learn more about the diverse disciplinary perspectives in the room, and start conversations that may continue throughout the congress. The emphasis is on openness and playfulness: getting to know one another, sharing what excites you about your work, and recognising the breadth of expertise represented here. Whether you’re naturally outgoing or prefer a gentler start, the session is designed to be inclusive, low pressure, and enjoyable, and you can choose to observe rather than participate whenever you wish.

By the end of the session, you’ll have met new colleagues, exchanged ideas, and helped generate the collaborative energy that will carry through the rest of the congress. It’s a warm, collective welcome to the congress and an invitation to make the most of the time we have together. After all, it’s the best thing we can do with words.
