Mindful Energy, Deliberate Rest and Work-Life Balance in the PhD
Doctoral research can be demanding and it is often difficult to know when to push on or when to rest. This interactive workshop is the first of four which can be taken as a series; students may also choose to book individual ones. This first one introduces you to mindful, sustainable ways of working that will help you maintain focus, progress and wellbeing throughout your PhD.
Drawing on the practical R.E.St Reset framework (Rest, Energise, Stop), you'll reflect on your current working habits, explore different types of rest, and identify practical ways to work with (rather than against) your natural energy levels and working preferences.
Through guided activities and peer discussion, you'll consider how to recognise patterns of overwork, incorporate rest into your routine without guilt, and create a more balanced approach to research that will support both your productivity and wellbeing.
By the end of this workshop, you will be able to:
• Recognise different types of rest and how they enhance your research and wellbeing.
• Identify the optimal conditions to support focused energy, productivity and progress in your research.
• Apply the R.E.St Reset framework to develop more sustainable working practices.
• Recognise and interrupt patterns of overwork and create more balanced routines.
